Tuesday July 3rd, 2012. Not Just Sports has a lively fully packed show today. Cliff Meidl, worked for ten years to make the Olympics. Steven Goldman, our MLB guru and baseball historian takes on the All Star Game and talks about Bryce Harper, the Las Vegas native who at 19 is an MLB phenomenon. Two professional boxers fill out the show; Howard Davis Jr. a gold medal winner in the 1976 Olympics who turned pro and Christy Martin, a groundbreaking female boxer whose career covers a span of twenty years.

Cliff Meidl is an inspirational athlete who overcame a horrific construction accident to become an Olympic qualifier as a kayaker. He was selected to carry the US flag into the 2000 Olympics held in Sydney, Australia because of his courage, determination, and persistence to make the Olympics against all odds. Cliff is currently working with www.raiseourflag.org He also recently established the Cliff Meidl Foundation, a non-profit organization to promote the sport of kayaking.
Howard Davis Jr. became interested in boxing when his father took him to see a movie titled “A. K.A. Cassius Clay” about the career of Muhammad Ali. That movie propelled him into a twenty year boxing career. Howard won the Olympic gold in 1976 and also was awarded the Val Barker Award as the most outstanding boxing performance during the Olympics. Currently Howard trains other up and coming boxers and MMA athletes. His son Dyah has also joined the ranks as a boxer while his father proudly advises him.
Christy Martin is a boxing warrior. She has held the title as Women’s Super Welterweight of the World (WBC) with a record of 49 wins 6 losses 3 draws and 31 knockouts. Christy has had her share of emotional turmoil but has handled it with courage and tenacity without giving up. Her next fight is scheduled in August of this year in Fresno California. Christy is a winner and authentic champion in the boxing ring and a real fighter for women outside the ring as well.
