Friday June 22, 2012. Lots of action on today’s show of Not Just Sports. Will Tidey, an author and expert on all things soccer talks about this weekend’s Euro Cup. The most decorated gymnast in the U.S. Olympics, Shannon Miller, tells a fascinating story about reaching and competing in the Olympics and world competitions and her life thereafter. The ironman of the NFL, Jim Marshall, relives his football career and his charitable work with Gridiron Greats and Ken Thompson, host of the Sports X Radio show on KDWN, Las Vegas, gives listeners some sound advice on how to bet on sports and win.
Will Tidey hails from Sussex, England. He is the World Cup and Euro Cup writer for Bleacher Report. Having followed England’s premier team, Manchester United, for several decades, Will’s recent book traces twenty five years with its famous manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. Shannon Miller is an icon who represents the heart and soul of women’s gymnastics. Her graceful style and balletic moves set her apart from other female gymnasts during the U.S. Olympics in the 1990’s. When Shannon was 9 years old she spent two weeks in Russia at gymnastic camp and it was during that trip that she became passionate about the sport. Shannon has been a role model for women across a broad spectrum for two decades. Her series of life-style books from nutrition to yoga are available on Amazon.
Jim Marshall, the “Ironman of Football” spent 20 years in the NFL during the glory days of the Minnesota Vikings. He has had a varied career after football which has always included reaching out to others. Jim currently is a spokesman for Gridiron Greats who helped him through a series of back operations. He can’t sing the praises of the Laser Spine Institute and Gridiron Greats enough for taking care of his medical needs. The Laser Spine Institute performed several procedures on Jim’s back that have enabled him to lead a “normal” life—after years of disability. Gridiron Greats is a non-profit organization that is making a huge difference in the lives of former NFL players without medical coverage. www.GridironGreats.com
